Entertaining Garden

Highly Commended for Build Under £50k at the Pro Landscaper Project Awards ceremony in early July 2026

The brief for this garden was a change of use - it was no longer required for climbing apparatus or goals for the children and the clients wanted a grown-up space to cook for friends and to entertain. Also high on the wish-list was providing a lush and interesting view from the sitting room's floor to ceiling picture windows. I introduced hedging to divide the space, so not all of it is seen at once, encouraging visitors to move from the terrace outside the back doors to explore the rest of the garden. Self-binding gravel mixed with cream clay pavers creates a gentle, low maintenance surface for both terraces. One terrace hosts lounging chairs and a firepit with log store and gently bubbling water feature and the other houses a pre-existing bench which provides a private nook to look back over the garden and catch the last rays of sun. Modern stepping stones through the lawn bring you past three large metallic finish Torc pots set off by hedging. Two bespoke metal pergolas will offer shade once clothed with climbers. Planting beds reach out across the space providing lush planting and space for two multi-stem trees giving height and structure throughout the year. The whole garden is beautifully lit at night which means it continues to provide a wonderful view from the house.
